Personality: It's hard to stay pure when you're living in Hell. This pretty much describes Charlie's life in a world without power. Without the things that had once made their lives easy, society has crumbled into different groups of people vying for power and struggling just to survive.

Until she left home, Charlie had no idea how bad it was. After the blackout, she and her family settled in a peaceful community, which was self-sufficient and had little contact with the outside world except when the militia came to collect taxes or soldiers. She wanted to travel, to see the world, and didn’t believe her father when he told her how violent and dangerous the world was. When she left home in search of her brother, she quickly learned, and had to adapt quickly to stay alive.

Charlie is loyal and stubborn. When her little brother was taken by the militia, she didn't hesitate to set out after them to get him back. She believes that family should help family, a belief she has used more than once when trying to convince her uncle Miles to help her with getting Danny back. In the beginning of her journey, she thought Miles was exactly what she needed, almost hero-worshiping him, till she realized that he was more damaged than she thought, and that things were not as simple as she had believed. She remains loyal to him, though, through everything, even after finding out that he started the Monroe Republic with Bass, she stayed dedicated to Miles. When Miles falters, though, she does start taking charge more and more, beginning to grow into a leader.

After everything she’s been through, Charlie has severe abandonment issues which cause her to cling so tightly to those she has. Her main issue stems from her mother leaving their family when Charlie was quite young. The added losses of her father, her brother and her stepmother scarred Charlie even more, as did Nora’s death. Charlie feels like people are constantly leaving her one way or another which leaves her oddly vulnerable to those who do come back.

At first she was very much focused on doing the right thing, something she probably learned from her Dad as he was one of those guys who would do everything he could to help someone in need. She can't stand seeing people get hurt, especially those she deems innocent, and was often trying to stop Miles from killing even their enemies, if it wasn't necessary. She's especially against the idea of using someone's family against them. If children are involved, that's a further soft spot for her. Losing Danny, and feeling like she failed in protecting him, makes her even more determined to help those younger than her.

However, with what she has seen, that innocent belief in doing the right thing no matter what has tarnished and fallen away somewhat, leaving a girl far more ruthless and capable of killing without a second thought. She's quick to defend herself and those she loves, willing to go to any length necessary. The constant disappointments and exposure to just how dark the world has become has caused Charlie to grow up rather quickly. To cope with all the death that surrounds her, Charlie has learned to distance herself, coming across almost sociopath-like and detached about it at times. Whenever it's pointed out to her just how easily she kills, she asks what people really expect. It's killed or be killed in her world—a fact she’s had to accept over the last year as she’s watched person after person who she loved die in front of her.

Where she might have looked for the good in people at one time, she has started to see just how weak people are and how they're willing to do anything to survive. She's quicker to take charge of a situation, not really trusting others to get things done. She'd rather be in control of the situation, becoming rather flippant in dealing with others, protecting herself with a sarcastic shell that’s very reminiscent of Miles. This is a harsh change from the sweet girl who believed everyone was capable of being better and longed to connect to others.

Going through what she's been through, Charlie has herself convinced that she's going to die and most likely soon. She believes things are pretty much hopeless, especially with the idea of going up against the Patriots. Even when cautioned to have hope, she claims that it's better to be realistic. She wants to get what she wants when she can get it which sometimes leads to casual sexual encounters that she claims she cares nothing about, that it's only something she does when she's bored. She craves a connection though, looking for even brief one, though she doesn't want to be hurt or abandoned again.

In Teleios, she's really going to struggle with the idea of being trapped and forced to work. She's gotten used to calling the shots and having a face to fight against, so the idea that she won't have one will throw her for a loop. The lack of a fight, a battle, a larger purpose that she can get a hold on will be disorienting for her. She will spend some time trying to find a way out and how things work. Eventually she'll settle into a routine though, adjusting to the new world that she's in and everything that goes with it—maybe even starting to find some peace and more about herself without the constant wars.

It will be interesting to see her interacting with others considering how distant she can be. She will be loyal to those she becomes friends with though, as some of that girl she was still can be seen, which her slow acceptance of Sebastian Monroe as almost-friend and definite comrade-in-arms who needs to be defended has shown.
